The GSDA began in March of 1999 as a group of friends in Georgia who regularly gathered to train herding dogs. We concluded that an organization of the handlers of all breeds of stock dogs in our area would be beneficial to all, and hence the Association was formed.
Our vision is a united association that encompasses the herding interests and activities of the membership as a whole. We welcome members from all walks of life and envision a membership as diverse as the activities in which they are engaged. Through support and education offered to all in their equally worthy endeavors, we will strive to assist each member in meeting individual herding goals, pursuant to our mission statement:
The Association is organized and operated to encourage, promote, advertise and develop interest in the breeding, training and working of stock dogs. The Association shall carry out the foregoing purposes by, among other things, conducting and sponsoring trials, activities, and contests; establishing the efficient promotion and management of the sport of herding in this state; establishing requirements, categories and criteria for membership in the Association; establishing appropriate recognition for such achievements in the sport of herding in this state; maintaining the traditional and historical connection of the stock dog with the farming, ranching and livestock industry; and cooperating with other canine breed associations having common purposes.
